Oleosome Technology

Have you heard about Oleosome Technology?

As we know, nature is incredible, the way plants survive the elements and even learn to thrive is astounding. Our very own Pascal Yvon wrote an in-depth article for Cosmetics &Toiletries magazine detailing the power of plants and how Oleosome technology can benefit your formulations.

WHAT ARE OLEOSOMES

Oleosomes are natural oil droplets found in plant seeds. They have a unique structure – a sophisticated monolayer phospholipid membrane embeddedwith proteins (primarily oleosins) that encapsulates and protects thetriacylglycerol core (vegetable oil). The oil constitutes up to 99% of theoleosome. This structure grants the TAG core physical and chemical stability.Oleosomes present unique properties for personal care and cosmetics.

HOW OLEOSOMES WORK:

Oleosomes deliver multifunctional benefits, combiningnatural high emulsification capabilities to form stable emulsions with activeefficacy for skin health. They can emulsify up to three times their weight inoil, making them a versatile replacement for traditional emulsifiers. Uponapplication to the skin, oleosomes collapse and become an emollient, releasingtheir moisturizing oils and vitamin E, providing both sensory and functionalbenefits.

HOW WILL OLEOSOMES BENEFIT MY FORMULATION

Oleosomes* inherent stability and self-emulsifyingproperties make them good candidates for the creation of stable oil and wateremulsions, enhancing performance for advanced cosmetic formulations. Theability to incorporate up to three times their weight in external oils makesthem ideal for various skincare and haircare products, ensuring a smooth andconsistent texture.

HOW WILL OLEOSOMES BENEFIT MY SKIN

As an active ingredient, Oleosomes* deliver multifunctionalbenefits for skin health. When applied on the skin, they act as an emollient, andinfuse fatty acids into the stratum corneum, strengthening the skin barrier. Aclinical study highlighted key benefits with TEWL reduction, as well as anincrease in water content and thickness, ceramide and fatty acid content inskin.
