Sharon Personal Care at the World of Wipes
Pascal Yvon of Sharon Personal Care attended the World of Wipes from June 17th - 20th, 2024 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, MN. During the conference, he presented an innovative platform for wipes.
Preserving wipes is complex and known to be challenging. The microbiological risk is due to the unique product characteristics of wipes, which is composed of both a liquid formula & fabric. The industry is facing another hurdle: a strong trend of "free-from" claims, which are limiting the choice of ingredients and preservation systems.
Safety concerns are especially high when it comes to wipes, as many are used for baby care and on sensitive areas. Our research identified the microbiological risk associated with the following factors: the non-woven tendency to form a biofilm. Biofilm happens due to polymeric substances such as polysaccharides, proteins, lipids and DNA coating. These coating materials protect the bacteria from the outside environment, including preservatives. The non-woven fabric is in need of a hydrophilic preservative in order to achieve adequate protection.
Sharon Personal Care developed a technological breakthrough by providing a platform solution which protects both the formula and the wipe. It is composed of a carefully selected combination of hydrophilic elements, together with an anti-biofilm agent. The systems demonstrate high efficacy and broad spectrum at a low level of use.
